The Cold Moon will light up the skies on December 15, 2024, offering a stunning view for moon gazers everywhere
London: The last full moon of the year is coming up soon! This week, the Cold Moon will be shining bright in the sky, following November’s Beaver Moon.
While the Cold Moon might not be as flashy as the Hunter’s Supermoon from October, it’s still a lovely sight to catch in the winter sky.
So, what’s the Cold Moon all about? It’s the 12th full moon of the year and will be visible on Sunday, December 15. You’ll get to see almost all of it—99.82 percent, to be exact—thanks to the way the Earth, Moon, and Sun line up.
Looking ahead, 2025 will have one full moon each month, with the Beaver Moon and Cold Moon being the only supermoons that year.
Speaking of supermoons, they happen when the Moon is closest to Earth during a full moon, making it look bigger and brighter. It’s a neat phenomenon that only occurs a few times a year.
