Virgil van Dijk expressed his anger over a controversial decision in Liverpool’s semi-final loss to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup.
North London: So, Virgil van Dijk was really upset after Liverpool lost to Tottenham. The game ended 1-0, and it was a tough one for the Reds.
Tottenham’s young midfielder, Lucas Bergvall, scored the only goal just minutes before the end. But here’s the kicker: Liverpool thought he should have been sent off before that for a foul.
It was a tense match, and Liverpool had been on a great run, not losing in 23 games. But that streak ended in this semi-final of the Carabao Cup.
Fans were scratching their heads over the referee’s decision. Bergvall had a foul that many thought deserved a second yellow card, but he stayed on the pitch to score.
Van Dijk made it clear he was not happy with the referee, Stuart Attwell. He felt it was obvious that Bergvall should have been sent off. “It was quite clear,” he said.
Even though Liverpool was down to 10 men when the goal happened, Van Dijk insisted that the decision was a big moment in the game. He wasn’t saying it was the only reason they lost, but it sure didn’t help.
