World War II veterans are invited to register for VE Day and VJ Day events this year to honor their service and sacrifices.
London: The Royal British Legion is reaching out to World War II veterans. They want everyone to register for the 80th anniversaries of VE Day and VJ Day this year.
VE Day was on May 8, 1945, and VJ Day followed on August 15, 1945. These days marked the end of the war, and they’re a big deal.
There will be major events celebrating the efforts of the Allied Forces, including those from Britain and the Commonwealth. The RBL is really hoping to see a lot of participation.
If you served in the war or know someone who did, the RBL encourages you to sign up on their website. They want to make sure everyone can join in on the local and national events.
Last year was a big one too, with the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Lots of people, including royal family members, attended events in Normandy and other places.
They even had veterans returning to Normandy to remember the beach landings. It was a touching moment for everyone involved.
Now, the RBL is looking forward to bringing the nation together again for VE Day and VJ Day in 2025. It’s all about honoring those who served.
Philippa Rawlinson from the RBL said they want to hear from all veterans. They’re interested in sharing their stories and making sure their contributions are remembered.
So, who can sign up? It’s open to surviving British and Commonwealth veterans, plus anyone who helped with the war effort, like munitions workers and reservists.
Once registered, people will get updates on the commemorative plans and invitations to events. It’s a great way to connect and remember together.
