The iconic pop trio unveil a blue plaque honoring their legendary studio in Southwark
London: So, guess what? The legendary pop producers Mike Stock, Matt Aitken, and Pete Waterman just got a blue plaque outside their old studio, known as “The Hit Factory.” This place was like a magical hub for pop music back in the day.
They created so many hits in the ’80s and ’90s from their studio in Southwark. You know, the ones that made stars out of Kylie Minogue, Rick Astley, and Bananarama. It’s pretty wild to think about how many careers they launched!
They gathered at Vine Yard Studios to unveil the plaque, and it was a real trip down memory lane. Waterman shared how special the building was to them, reminiscing about how it used to be a rough area. He even joked about guiding staff through the neighborhood at night because it was that sketchy.
But despite the past, he said the local community was amazing. It’s funny how things change, right? Now, that area is trendy and bustling.
The plaque from Historic England highlights their incredible success from 1984 to 1993. They had some massive hits like “I Should Be So Lucky” and “Never Gonna Give You Up.” Those songs are still iconic today!
Aitken mentioned that while it was hard work, they had some lucky breaks along the way. And Waterman added that they were pretty much left alone to do their thing, which helped them create their magic.
Among the guests was former BBC Radio 1 DJ Mike Read, who praised the trio for their ability to craft songs that really resonated with young people. It’s just so cool to see them honored like this!
