This weekend, South Western trains face cancellations and diversions due to essential maintenance work affecting several routes
Guildford: So, this weekend, a bunch of South Western trains are getting cancelled, diverted, or replaced by buses. It’s all because of some maintenance work they need to do.
This is happening on Saturday and Sunday, December 21 and 22. If you’re planning to travel, you’ll want to know what’s going on.
In the Clandon area, the lines will be closed for emergency work. That means no trains running between Guildford and Effingham Junction. But don’t worry, there will be a revised service between London Waterloo and Effingham Junction, plus buses running between Guildford, Effingham Junction, and Epsom.
Now, on Sunday, December 22, the Tolworth area will also be closed all day for maintenance. If you were hoping to catch a train from London Waterloo to Chessington, you’re out of luck. Instead, you’ll need to take other services to Worcester Park, and there will be replacement buses running from there to Chessington South.
Over in the Havant area, the lines will be closed all day too. If you were planning to travel from London Waterloo to Portsmouth Harbour via Guildford, your train will only take you as far as Petersfield. But don’t fret, there will be buses to get you from Petersfield to Portsmouth Harbour.
Lastly, the lines between Brockenhurst and Lymington Pier will also be closed all day. So, no trains running there either, but again, replacement buses will be available.
