Sir David Jason shares his thoughts on swearing in TV shows during a podcast, revealing his disappointment with A Touch of Frost
London: Sir David Jason, the beloved actor known for his iconic roles, recently opened up about his feelings on swearing in television. He was chatting on the BBC podcast, Off The Telly, with Natalie Cassidy and Joanna Page.
During the conversation, he reflected on his long career and specifically mentioned A Touch of Frost, a show that many fans adore. But he had a bit of a bone to pick with it.
He admitted that he’s not a fan of foul language. In fact, he said, “I’m quite opposed – as an actor, as a person – to foul language.” It’s clear that this is something he feels strongly about.
Sir David expressed his disappointment that swearing has become so common in dramas today. He noted, “You can’t see a drama these days without seeing strong language.”
Interestingly, he revealed that the original script for A Touch of Frost included some swearing, but he refused to say those lines. He mentioned, “I have never had anyone complain… saying they didn’t like the programme because we didn’t swear.”
He believes that if a show is good enough, it shouldn’t need to rely on swearing to be successful. A Touch of Frost ran from 1992 to 2010, showcasing Detective Jack Frost’s unique crime-solving methods.
Alongside Sir David, the show featured other talented actors like John Lyons and Caroline Harker, making it a memorable part of British television history.
