London: Scott Mills is stepping into the spotlight as he takes over the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show from Zoe Ball. He’s not worried about the chatter regarding fewer women presenters on the station. Mills is excited and ready for this new chapter.

Zoe Ball wrapped up her time on the show on December 20 after six successful years. Mills is set to kick off his first day on January 27. When asked about the gender balance on the show, he pointed out that his team includes two women, newsreader Tina Daheley and traffic reporter Ellie Brennan.

He reassured listeners that he’s not concerned about the current lineup, which features him alongside Vernon Kay and Jeremy Vine. Mills mentioned that the breakfast team has a good mix, and he’s confident in the direction they’re heading.

Next week, Trevor Nelson will take over Mills’s previous afternoon slot, while the new schedule also brings exciting changes, like Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s show getting an extra hour on Friday nights.

Mills shared that he was once in the running for the Radio 1 breakfast show but didn’t get it. He’s not feeling daunted by the challenge ahead, saying he’s ready to dive in and make the show his own.

As for Zoe Ball, she made history as the first woman to host the breakfast show when she took over from Chris Evans in 2019. She decided to leave to focus on her family, and her farewell show was filled with heartfelt messages from stars like Kylie Minogue and David Tennant.

Ball was the highest-paid female presenter at the BBC, earning between £950,000 and £954,999, while Mills’s salary is significantly lower but still respectable at around £315,000 to £319,999.

With a massive audience tuning in to Ball’s show, Mills has some big shoes to fill, but he seems more than ready for the challenge ahead.
