Comedian Russell Howard steps away from television to focus on stand-up and podcasts
Bath: Russell Howard has decided to leave TV after nearly 20 years. Can you believe it? The comedian, who’s 44, first hit the screens with his BBC show, Good News, from 2009 to 2015.
Then he launched The Russell Howard Hour on Sky in 2017, which ran for six series. He even did a spin-off from home during the pandemic. You might remember him from Mock of the Week too, but that show is no longer on air.
His last gig was on Channel 4’s Big Fat Quiz of Telly back in August. Now, he’s ready to shift gears and focus on stand-up and his two podcasts, Five Brilliant Things and GoalLess.
On the Have A Word podcast, he shared his thoughts about this big change. He said, “I don’t do TV anymore, I just do stand-up and my podcast.” Sounds like he’s really excited about it!
He mentioned how much he loves stand-up compared to TV. It’s all about the connection with the audience for him. He feels like it’s a personal experience, not just entertainment for a committee.
If you’re worried about missing him, there’s some good news! His new special, Live at the London Palladium, will be available to stream on January 15. It was filmed during his last tour, and he performed 13 shows at that iconic venue.
Plus, he’s got more shows lined up for early 2025 in places like Hong Kong, India, and Singapore, before heading back to Europe and the USA. So, he’s definitely not disappearing!
