The RMT union’s walkout at London Euston signals a busy year ahead for strikes
London: The Rail, Maritime and Transport union, or RMT, is kicking off the new year with a strike that’s going to shake things up on the railways.
They’re walking out again this Thursday, and it’s all about how they’re treated on their rest days. This means fewer trains running from London Euston to places like Wolverhampton, Crewe, and Manchester.
An RMT spokesperson made it clear they’re not happy. They pointed out that replacement managers are raking in about £500 per shift, which is double what the regular staff earn, and they’re not even giving the same level of service.
Avanti West Coast isn’t thrilled about the strike either, calling it “disappointing.”
Looking ahead, it seems like 2025 is going to be a year filled with strikes.
Who will be striking in 2025?
As of now, everything mentioned is accurate, but things can change quickly.
Transport for London
The RMT also led a strike on the Elizabeth line over New Year’s, which lasted for 24 hours from 9 PM on December 31 to 9 PM on January 1.
For now, there aren’t any more strikes planned on the Transport for London network.
Rail
On January 2, the RMT will again impact Avanti West Coast services, and they’ll be striking every Sunday from January 12 to May 25.
If you’re traveling, check the National Rail portal for updates on how to adjust your plans.
Junior doctors
Since the British Medical Association reached an agreement with the government last September, there haven’t been any new strikes from junior doctors.
Border Force
After last year’s big walkouts at Heathrow, Border Force staff haven’t announced any new strikes for 2025.
GPs
Last June, GPs held a walkout due to ongoing disputes with the government, but there are no new strikes on the horizon.
