A restaurant and bar in Harrow face closure over a rat problem and unlicensed alcohol sales, highlighting serious health and safety concerns.
Harrow: So, there’s been quite a stir in Harrow lately. A restaurant and a bar got shut down after some serious health violations came to light. The restaurant had a rat infestation, and the bar was caught selling alcohol without a license. Yikes!
During a routine check, the council’s environmental health team found a major rat problem in one restaurant. They discovered rat droppings everywhere—on food, packaging, and even the surfaces where food was prepped. It was bad enough that they had to close the place right away. The restaurant’s name is still under wraps since the case is ongoing.
The owners were hit with a hefty fine of £1,670 and told they can’t reopen until they sort out their pest control issues. They’ll be monitored closely to make sure they’re on the right track.
Then there’s the Harrow Sports Bar, which also got the boot for selling booze without a license. Despite multiple warnings from the council and police, they kept at it. The owner, Ms. Ging, initially denied any wrongdoing but later tried to blame her accountant. Talk about passing the buck!
She even claimed she didn’t get the warning notices, even though they were sent in every way possible—email, hand delivery, and recorded delivery. After a court hearing, the bar was ordered to close for good.
Cllr Pritesh Patel, who’s in charge of keeping the streets clean and safe, was pretty upset about the whole situation. He said it’s frustrating when some businesses ignore the rules while others play by them. He’s determined to keep cracking down on these kinds of violations to protect the community.
In a related crackdown, over 100 kilos of suspicious meat were seized from another supplier. Apparently, some of it was smoked in a residential garden and sold to restaurants without any hygiene checks. That’s just not safe!
Cllr Patel emphasized that anyone who risks public health will face serious consequences. He thanked the officers for their hard work in keeping residents safe and ensuring food businesses follow the law.
These “days and nights of action” aren’t just about food safety; they also tackle issues like antisocial behavior and fly-tipping. Cllr Patel is committed to restoring pride in Harrow and making sure everyone plays by the rules.
