Thick fog has caused major disruptions at London airports, delaying over 200 flights and affecting travel plans for many passengers.
London: So, it’s been a bit of a mess at the airports lately. More than 200 flights got delayed because of this thick fog hanging around. It’s really causing a headache for travelers.
Gatwick has seen the worst of it with 238 delays, while Heathrow and Stansted aren’t far behind with 209 and 31 delays, respectively. Some flights have even been canceled, which is just adding to the chaos.
And it’s not just today; folks were already stuck waiting for hours yesterday. Can you imagine? Some had to wait an extra three hours just to get on their flights!
The Met Office warned that visibility could drop to just 100 meters in some spots. They said it’s going to be a cloudy, misty day, and the fog might stick around longer than we’d like.
A spokesperson from Gatwick mentioned that they’ve had to put some temporary air traffic restrictions in place because of the poor visibility. They’re asking passengers to check with their airlines for updates.
While the national weather service hasn’t issued any official warnings yet, they’re keeping an eye on things. It’s that time of year when everyone’s traveling, and the roads are packed.
According to Met Office meteorologist Liam Eslick, there’s a lot of fog covering much of England, especially in the South East. It’s going to be pretty murky out there.
Even Manchester Airport is feeling the pinch with delays, and it looks like this foggy situation is going to be a nationwide issue.
Nats, the UK’s main air traffic controller, said they’re on top of it, working closely with airports and airlines to keep things running as smoothly as possible.
They also advised drivers to take it easy on the roads in these foggy conditions. But there’s a bit of good news: the fog should start to clear up by Sunday, thanks to some stronger winds coming in.
So, while it might not be completely sunny, at least we can expect a break from this dreary weather soon. Just don’t get your hopes up for too much winter sunshine!
