Celebrities unite to encourage donations for the winter appeal aiding refugees and the homeless in the UK
London: Comedian Mawaan Rizwan, who once faced deportation, and rapper Big Zuu, whose mom came to the UK as a refugee, are rallying support for our Winter Appeal. They’re joined by actresses Olivia Colman and Jodie Whittaker, plus comedian Babatunde Aleshe. They’re all urging folks to “give what you can” to help people rebuild their lives.
This support comes right after we shared that our joint appeal with Comic Relief, called A Place to Call Home, has already raised over £2 million to help refugees and those experiencing homelessness.
Big Zuu, who grew up in west London, shared how important this appeal is as winter approaches. He said it brings hope and essentials like warm meals to those without homes. He emphasized that every little bit helps improve lives across London and the UK.
Mawaan Rizwan, who moved from Pakistan to the UK as a child, also spoke up. He highlighted the struggles of LGBTQI asylum seekers and how donations can provide crucial support, like access to specialized helplines. He encouraged everyone to chip in if they can this winter.
Olivia Colman, a long-time supporter of such causes, reminded us how the British public often comes together to help those in need. She pointed out that many organizations are working hard to provide urgent help this winter, and every donation counts.
Jodie Whittaker, known for her role as the 13th Doctor Who, expressed her amazement at the generosity of the public. She stressed that those without homes are scared as the cold months approach and need our support now more than ever.
Babatunde Aleshe, who grew up in Tottenham, also added his voice to the appeal. He shared how he’s seen donations make a real difference in London. He urged everyone to help provide comfort and hope to those facing the harsh winter.
Other celebrities supporting the Winter Appeal include Rita Ora, Michael Sheen, and Jo Brand, among others. Together, they’re making a strong call for donations to help those in need this winter.
