Croydon: A new report has come out, and it’s not pretty. It reveals some serious governance failures in the local council. The review dives into how the council mismanaged its former housing company, Brick by Brick (BBB). Now, the council is planning to push the government for changes to the laws around misconduct in public office.
The Kroll report, released this week, shows how the council oversaw a massive budget blowout on the Fairfield Halls project. What started as a £30 million renovation ballooned to £73 million by the time it reopened in 2019. That’s a huge jump!
This comes after the police announced they wouldn’t be taking any further action regarding the council’s financial mess, even though they found signs of potential wrongdoing. They said the issues were more about the group than any one person.
