Neil Harris has stepped down as Millwall head coach after a surprising announcement following the Middlesbrough match, marking the end of his second tenure.
London: So, Neil Harris just dropped a bombshell by resigning as Millwall’s head coach after the game against Middlesbrough. He said it wasn’t an easy choice, but he felt it was the right time to step away.
Harris, who’s a club legend, came back to manage Millwall in February after leaving the role four years earlier. He did a solid job, pulling the team away from relegation worries.
Right now, Millwall is sitting in 11th place with 25 points after 18 matches, just a few points shy of the playoff spots. The club announced that it was a mutual decision for him to leave after the match against Sheffield United and the one against Middlesbrough.
In a heartfelt letter on the club’s website, Harris expressed how tough this decision was for him. He mentioned that Millwall is more than just a job; it’s his home and his life.
He reflected on the highs of his return last season, saying it was one of the best times of his career. He praised the team’s dedication and the passionate fans, who he feels are often misunderstood but make the club unique.
Harris, who is Millwall’s all-time leading goalscorer, previously led the club to promotion from League One during his first stint from 2015 to 2019. The team had been on a nine-match unbeaten run until their recent loss to Coventry.
Millwall’s chairman, James Berylson, thanked Harris for his contributions and confirmed that they would announce interim management plans soon.
