London faces icy road conditions as the Met Office issues a yellow weather warning after recent snowfall and freezing temperatures
London: The Met Office has put out a yellow weather warning for the city after a night filled with snow and chilly temps. This warning kicked in on Wednesday evening and will last until this morning.
With the rain and snow from yesterday, roads are left wet and cold, which means they could get icy. The Met Office is saying to be careful out there.
They mentioned that untreated surfaces might turn icy overnight, especially in the west. Some areas in the east might just miss the freezing conditions.
On top of that, there’s an amber cold-health alert from the UK Health Security Agency that will stick around until January 12, as more cold weather is on the way.
Snow and sleet started hitting southern England on Wednesday afternoon, and the Met Office warns that more alerts could follow as the week progresses.
As for today, expect a cold and frosty start with some icy patches on untreated surfaces. The clouds should clear up a bit, leading to a mostly sunny day, but it’ll still be chilly with a high of just 4 °C.
Tonight, brace for another cold one with widespread frost. Some clouds will roll in from the west, but temperatures will still dip down to around -6 °C.
Looking ahead to Friday, more clouds will move in, and there might be some light rain in the far west, possibly turning wintry over the hills. Early fog should clear up, giving way to some hazy sunshine.
As for the weekend, it’ll stay cold and dry on Saturday with widespread frost. Temperatures will hover around freezing during the day, with a slight recovery expected by Sunday and Monday.
