London: Since 2012, folks have been glued to their screens for Call the Midwife on the BBC. It’s such a heartwarming show!

It all started with Jennifer Worth’s books about her experiences as a midwife in the East End during the 1950s. But it was Heidi Thomas who really brought it to life on screen.

Heidi took inspiration from Worth’s stories and the real-life St Frideswide’s Mission House, which is known as Nonnatus House in the show. It’s such a cozy setting!

And guess what? The new series kicks off tonight! The Isle of Dogs is buzzing with protests, and Mayor Violet is in for a surprise when she tries to calm things down.

Heidi Thomas isn’t just about Call the Midwife, though. She’s been behind a bunch of popular shows and is even married to Stephen McGann, who plays Dr. Turner.

Originally from Liverpool, Heidi kicked off her writing career back in 1987. She worked on the anthology series Screenplay and kept climbing the ladder from there.

She’s written for shows like Frank Stubbs and Doctor Finlay, and even penned a movie starring Daniel Craig called Kiss and Tell. Talk about talent!

After that, she created the mini-series Lilies, which got a lot of love and led to her working on the award-winning Upstairs Downstairs.

In 2012, Call the Midwife made its debut and quickly became a fan favorite, with full seasons and Christmas specials every year.

Heidi and Stephen have been together since 1990 and have a son. They met when he auditioned for one of her plays. How sweet is that?

In October 2022, she was honored with an OBE for her contributions to drama. What an incredible journey!
