A man has been prohibited from owning dogs after mistreating his fearful Great Dane cross, Lizzie, leading to legal action.
Harrow: So, there’s this guy, Daniel Kirwan, who got himself into some serious trouble. He was banned from having dogs after his neighbor caught him treating his Great Dane cross, Lizzie, really harshly.
Apparently, Daniel was using some pretty rough training methods that scared the poor dog. His neighbor thought something was off and recorded what was happening. The audio was enough to raise alarms.
When the RSPCA looked into it, they found that Lizzie was acting super anxious and scared. An animal behavior expert even said the sounds from the recordings showed the dog was in distress. That’s just heartbreaking.
On March 7 last year, the RSPCA, along with the police, went to Daniel’s place and took Lizzie away. She was clearly frightened and unsure of herself, which is just so sad.
Fast forward to December 20, and Daniel was in court. He admitted to the charges under the Animal Welfare Act. The court heard he was dealing with some mental health and drug issues, which might have played a part in his actions.
In the end, he got a one-year community order, had to do some rehab, and was banned from owning dogs for seven years. The RSPCA inspector said Lizzie was really fearful because of how she was treated, and it’s great that people spoke up about it.
Thanks to those who reported the situation, Lizzie is now safe and away from that harsh treatment. It’s a relief to know that there are folks out there looking out for animals in need.
