A man and his two dogs were saved from a frozen lake in Battersea Park, highlighting the dangers of icy conditions for pets.
Battersea: So, there was this wild scene at Battersea Park in London. A man got stuck on a frozen lake while trying to save his dog. It all went down around 11:20 AM on January 11.
Firefighters had to bring out an inflatable boat to rescue both the man and his pup. Thankfully, they were treated right there on the spot.
But wait, there’s more! Another dog got stuck on the same lake a bit later, around 1 PM. Talk about a busy day for the rescue teams!
A spokesperson from the London Fire Brigade had some serious advice. They stressed how crucial it is to keep dogs away from frozen water. It can be super dangerous.
They suggested walking dogs away from icy spots or keeping them on a lead if you have to be near. If your dog does wander onto the ice, don’t follow them! Just call them back and, if they’re stuck, get help.
It’s really not worth risking your safety to save your pet. Even if the ice looks thick, it can be thinner than it seems. And if you fall in, that icy water can take your breath away.
It’s a real panic situation, and you could end up drowning. Plus, the cold can numb your limbs, making it hard to swim. Hypothermia is no joke, and it can happen to anyone, even the best swimmers.
Fire rescue units from several stations, including Lambeth and Chelsea, were on the scene. Thankfully, everything was wrapped up by 1:15 PM.
