TV presenter Louise Roe shares her journey from rural Bucks to vibrant London, embracing city life and home decor.
London: So, Louise Roe is cozying up at home, enjoying The Holiday this Christmas. She’s not missing the countryside vibes at all. Five years back, after a decade in LA, she and her husband, Mackenzie, settled in a lovely Georgian rectory in Buckinghamshire. They had a great time there, but it was short-lived—just 18 months before they decided to move again.
Louise doesn’t regret the move to Bucks. She loved the space during lockdown, but it made her realize how much she missed London. “We wanted to be back in the city,” she says. The couple now lives in a Victorian semi in a charming part of south-west London. Sure, the garden is smaller, but the house is just as spacious, just stacked up instead of spread out.
Being back in London has been a breath of fresh air for her. “I’ve got this nerdy list of places to check out, and I’ve barely made a dent,” she laughs. There’s always something new to discover—people, restaurants, history—you name it!
If you follow her on Instagram, you might remember her quick home makeover back in 2021. With a bunch of antiques and fresh color ideas, she transformed the space pretty fast. “It wasn’t just a copy-paste job; it was all about making it fit the new vibe,” she explains. Plus, being pregnant added a bit of pressure to get things done!
She’s got a knack for cozy decor. The living room, painted in a warm hue, showcases her love for traditional styles. And that drinks trolley? It’s a gem she found at an antiques fair, hidden away for years. “I love those stories,” she says, smiling.
Louise is all about creating a welcoming space. “When you see a bar cart, it says, ‘Come on in, grab a drink!’” Right now, she’s into vermouth on the rocks with a slice of orange. Sounds refreshing!
Her favorite piece? A tall, old mahogany desk that she uses every day. “It’s not super practical, but it inspires me,” she shares. She’s so into antiques that she wouldn’t mind diving into another renovation. “We’re not moving, just in case my husband’s reading this!” she jokes.
Lucky for her, she gets to design and style interiors for work. Three years ago, she launched Sharland England, named after her great-grandma. It’s all about unique, handmade pieces, from vases to outdoor furniture. Her Hadley tray is a bestseller, perfect for breakfast in bed or displaying flowers.
Finding makers from all over the world has been a big shift from her fashion reporting days, but it’s been a hit. Most of her customers are in the US, loving her take on English style. Next year, she’s off to Palm Beach and California to promote her brand, with a potential collaboration in the works.
Decked out for Christmas, her tree is topped with a giant bow and cute rattan bells. She loves updating her decorations without going all out. This year, she got crafty with her daughters, making DIY ornaments from old playing cards. They’ll enjoy a carol service with friends on Christmas Eve, which she prefers over the big day itself.
Even though she’s a pro at hosting, this year she’s taking it easy. “I just want to relax and catch up on my interiors books,” she says. Sometimes, the best ideas come when you let your mind rest a bit!
