London: If you’re planning to travel with Avanti West Coast around New Year’s, brace yourself for some disruptions. Train managers are going on strike, and it could affect your plans.

The RMT union members will be walking out on New Year’s Eve and January 2. They’re unhappy about working conditions, especially regarding rest days.

Avanti is urging folks to travel on different days if possible. They’re expecting a much-reduced timetable on those strike days, so it’s best to check ahead.

On those days, only a handful of trains will be running. For instance, there’ll be one train an hour from London Euston to places like Birmingham and Manchester.

But don’t expect much service to North Wales or Edinburgh. On December 31, there won’t be any trains to or from Macclesfield, and on January 2, Warrington and Wigan will also be out of luck.

Avanti is advising everyone to plan ahead and keep an eye on their travel details. If you booked tickets for those strike days, you can use them on other days or get a full refund.

Kathryn O’Brien from Avanti expressed disappointment over the strikes, saying they’ll cause a lot of hassle for travelers. She’s hoping for a resolution with the RMT soon.

The RMT spokesperson mentioned that their members have rejected Avanti’s offers, and they feel that striking is the only way to get management’s attention.

So, if you’re in London and planning to travel, keep these strike dates in mind and stay updated!
