Discover how our Beauty Editor embraces aging with a unique daily routine
London: Turning forty in December made me think about aging, kind of like how I care for my kitchen counter. Every few months, I clear the clutter and treat the wood with oil to keep it from drying out.
Each time I do this, I notice new scuffs and marks that seem to appear out of nowhere. But once I oil it, those little bangs add character, making the counter look better than new—like it has a story.
As I age, my skin shows signs of the years I’ve lived, and that’s okay. With the right products, I want my skin to tell a story too, rather than just look perfectly blank.
Do I want to look twenty? Not really. I find it odd when people want to erase all signs of aging. I’d rather feel healthy and engaged as I grow older.
Forty doesn’t feel old to me. My parents are in their eighties and still live vibrant lives. For me, turning forty is like opening a new door, ready to embrace what’s next.
To keep my skin, body, and hair in good shape, I use a bunch of products, kind of like that oil for my counter. My skincare routine is simple but effective.
I focus on keeping my skin plump and juicy. I use a cream cleanser, followed by a soothing product to help with acne, and then a barrier repair serum. I also mix in an eye cream, moisturizer, and SPF, switching brands now and then.
I love using LED masks to reduce inflammation and boost collagen. I use one every morning and follow it up with a laser treatment at night to keep my skin firm.
Every couple of months, I treat myself to a facial, which helps keep my skin looking fresh without any injectables.
As for my hair, I started noticing greys in my thirties. I get a semi-permanent dye every six weeks to cover them up. I also have a routine for my lashes and brows to keep everything looking sharp.
I enjoy walking as my main form of exercise, but I also do Pilates and yoga to keep my muscles strong and flexible. I stretch every morning to release tension.
I take a few supplements that I believe help. Probiotics for gut health, omega oils for inflammation, and vitamin D to keep my levels in check. I also take magnesium at night to help me sleep.
Speaking of sleep, it’s super important. A good night’s sleep makes a huge difference in how I feel and look. My Oura ring helps me stay on track with my sleep routine.
Every year, I go to a wellness retreat in Austria to reset and recharge. It’s a great way to catch up on rest and focus on my health.
Even though my routine sounds long, I actually enjoy it. I’ve made sure it fits into my life without being a hassle. After all, I want to create stories and experiences, not just chase after youth.
