A Kingston GP partner has been cleared of misconduct after a tribunal dismissed harassment claims made by her neighbours
Kingston: So, there was this GP partner, Dr. Audrey Barreto, who just got cleared of any misconduct. A tribunal looked into claims from her neighbors who said she harassed them. But guess what? The tribunal found those claims pretty flimsy.
The neighbors, referred to as Mr. A and Mrs. B, accused her of all sorts of things, like being loud, leaving their kids’ ball in her garden, and even staring at them. But the tribunal said, “Not proven!”
These claims went back to 2013 and stretched all the way to 2022. Mr. A kept a diary of incidents, but the tribunal found many of those entries unreliable. They were written after a dispute started, which raised some eyebrows.
For instance, Mr. A claimed Dr. Barreto knocked on their wall and parked in a way that blocked their driveway. But the tribunal didn’t buy it. They also dismissed claims about her being noisy at odd hours, saying there was no solid proof she was responsible.
Even the allegations about her making derogatory comments were tossed out. The tribunal found that Mr. A didn’t share all the info about some recordings they provided, which made them suspicious.
Mrs. B even said their kids were scared to play outside after an incident with a ball, but the tribunal thought Dr. Barreto’s explanation made more sense. She said she just put the ball in her garden for the kids to get later.
In the end, the tribunal only found a few minor things that Dr. Barreto did, like parking in a way that partly blocked the driveway a couple of times. They also noted that the couple’s claims of racial motivation were unfounded.
Dr. Barreto had a bunch of character witnesses who spoke highly of her, saying she treats everyone with respect. The tribunal concluded that her actions didn’t amount to harassment at all.
This whole situation sparked quite a discussion online, with many people feeling it was unfair for her to go through this ordeal. It’s a wild story, for sure!
