London: So, you won’t believe what happened at a Greggs in London. They actually padlocked their drinks fridge! Can you imagine? Customers were shocked to see it locked up during the day.

This particular Greggs, which is somewhere in the city, decided to lock away their Coke and Lucozade. It’s wild! People started sharing videos on TikTok, and it blew up online.

Greggs hasn’t officially said why they did this, but folks are talking. One person tweeted, “What’s the world coming to when you got to lock up bottles of pop?” It’s a fair question, right?

Others chimed in, saying it’s just sad. Some even mentioned that WH Smith has done the same thing. With over 2,300 Greggs in the UK, it seems this isn’t a usual practice for them.

One Twitter user pointed out that locking the drinks makes no sense, especially during busy lunch hours. It’s just not practical! The whole thing comes amid a rise in shoplifting, with shops in London losing a staggering £15 million this year alone.

In fact, there were over 67,000 shoplifting incidents recorded in London last year, making it the worst year ever. More than half of those cases didn’t even lead to any suspects being found.

Unmesh Desai, a spokesperson for policing and crime, said this is a growing crisis affecting everyone, from small shop owners to regular customers. It’s a tough situation.

Greggs did say this was an isolated incident and not their usual policy. They’re looking into it, but it’s clear that shoplifting is a big issue right now.
