A woman was rescued from a roof as 60 firefighters battled a major house fire in Catford, with several others hospitalized due to smoke inhalation.
Catford: A house fire turned dramatic when a woman had to be rescued from the roof. The flames were fierce, and it took a lot of effort to get her down safely.
About 60 firefighters and eight fire engines rushed to the scene. The woman was slipping on the ladder, which made things pretty tense. Thankfully, they managed to get a second ladder up to help her out.
She wasn’t alone; three people were taken to the hospital. The fire destroyed the first floor and loft of the house, which is a real shame.
The London Fire Brigade got the call around 7:30 am on Saturday. Station commander Mike Watts shared that the firefighters acted quickly to rescue the woman from the roof.
He mentioned that she was almost falling off but was saved just in time. After getting her down, she was treated for smoke inhalation, which is serious but could have been worse.
Two others inside the house were also hospitalized, with one believed to have serious injuries. Firefighters stayed on-site to make sure everything was under control and to investigate what caused the fire.
They advised folks to steer clear of the area while they worked on the situation. It’s wild how quickly things can escalate, and the brigade received over 20 calls about the fire.
Fire crews from New Cross, Beckenham, Greenwich, and Lee Green all pitched in to help tackle the blaze. It’s a reminder of how important these brave firefighters are in our communities.
