A double-decker bus narrowly missed a pub in north London after crashing in heavy rain on New Year’s Day, but thankfully no one was injured
London: So, there was this wild scene in north London where a double-decker bus crashed into a tree right outside a pub. It all went down on New Year’s Day, and it was pretty dramatic.
The police, paramedics, and firefighters rushed to The Garden Gate pub on South End Road in Hampstead. They got there fast after hearing that the bus driver might have lost control because the brakes failed.
The bus smashed into the pub’s outdoor area during lunchtime, but here’s the lucky part: because of the awful weather, no one was sitting outside. Can you imagine if it had been a nice day?
Photos from the scene showed police checking out the bus, which had some funny ads on the side about easy travel in London. A staff member at the pub said the driver claimed his brakes just stopped working.
There was some damage to the pub, but thankfully, no one got hurt. The staff said it was a loud bang, and everyone was a bit scared but mostly worried about the driver, who was the only one on the bus.
With the weather being so terrible, it probably saved a lot of people from being outside. If it had been sunny, there would have been folks on that patio, and it could have been a lot worse.
Now, the pub is back to normal. They talked to the police and fire brigade, and they weren’t worried about any serious damage to the building.
A police spokesperson mentioned that they got the call around 1:23 PM on January 1 about the bus hitting a tree. They sent officers, firefighters, and medics to check things out.
Luckily, there were no injuries reported, and the pub itself didn’t suffer any major damage. Transport for London was also contacted for more info.
