On January 21, Science Secretary Peter Kyle shared that by the end of 2027, the service will include not just driving licences but also veteran cards and other government credentials.
A government spokesperson mentioned that digital identities can be more secure than physical ones, but they won’t be mandatory. The new app will also remember your activity, making it easier to interact with government services.
Security is a big deal too. The app will have features like biometrics and multi-factor authentication, so only you can access your digital licence.
