Passengers traveling from Croydon to Gatwick Airport will face disruptions this weekend due to essential engineering work on the railway.
Croydon: This weekend, if you’re heading to Gatwick Airport from Croydon, be prepared for some hiccups. There’s engineering work happening, and it’s going to affect train services.
On Sunday, January 12, no trains will be running between East Croydon and Gatwick Airport. So, if you were planning to hop on a train, you’ll need to find another way.
Instead of trains, you’ll have to rely on replacement buses. This closure will impact several stations, including South Croydon and Redhill, so keep that in mind.
Network Rail is using this time to tackle maintenance at over 50 sites. They’ll be fixing tracks, signals, and power systems, plus clearing out some overgrown areas.
Lucy McAuliffe, the Sussex Route Director for Network Rail, mentioned that this line is one of the busiest in the country. They don’t often close it, so they want to make the most of this opportunity to improve things for passengers.
If you’re traveling from London to Gatwick, it’s best to go from London Victoria to East Grinstead and then catch a bus to the airport.
There will also be buses for local trips, like getting to and from Purley. Just a heads up, Jenny Saunders from Govia Thameslink Railway said journeys might take longer and could be busier than usual.
