Three Croydon residents have been recognised for their outstanding community contributions in the King’s New Year Honours list
Croydon: The New Year’s Honours list is out, and it’s great news for three locals who’ve made a real difference in the community.
These awards go to folks who’ve really impacted their neighborhoods or fields. It’s the first honours list of the year from King Charles III.
Alan Kurtz is one of the Croydon names on the list. He runs Fishers Chemist in South Norwood, which he bought back in 1966.
Alan received the British Empire Medal (BEM) for his dedication to community pharmacy. His shop even snagged the Pharmacy Team of the Year award in 2016 for its patient care.
Another honoree is Philip Poulton, the former headteacher of Bensham Manor School in Thornton Heath. He earned an MBE for his work with children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
Then there’s Caroline Pemberton from Coulsdon. She’s the Head of Resourcing at the Ministry of Justice and was awarded an OBE for her contributions to the Criminal Justice System.
Executive Mayor Jason Perry expressed his pride, saying it’s fantastic to see Croydonians recognized in the New Year’s Honours list.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer also praised these everyday heroes, highlighting how they embody the spirit of service that’s so important to the UK.
