London: So, it looks like Sir Sadiq Khan is under some serious pressure from the City Hall Conservatives. They want him to kick off an inquiry into child sexual exploitation in the city.

Lord Bailey, who used to run against Khan, sent him a letter saying there’s a good chance grooming gangs have been active in London. He believes a City Hall inquiry could really dig deep into this issue across all 32 boroughs.

In response, Khan’s office said helping victims of sexual assault is a top priority. They pointed out that the government has been slow to act on recommendations from a previous inquiry into child sexual abuse.

Bailey mentioned that over fifty areas have been flagged for systemic abuse by grooming gangs, and he’s worried that London might be one of them. He noted that the last major inquiry didn’t even look at London.

He referenced a GB News report that listed towns and cities affected by these gangs, which was put together after a lot of research and interviews with victims.

A spokesperson for Khan expressed sympathy for the victims, emphasizing that they’ve been let down for too long. They highlighted that London is taking steps to improve how the police handle serious sexual offenses.

Khan is also on board with the new government’s efforts to bring in legislation aimed at keeping children safe. He’s committed to working closely with ministers to ensure that victims get the justice they deserve.
