Bromley Youth Justice Service has been recognized for its exceptional support in helping children succeed, following a recent inspection.
Bromley: The Bromley Youth Justice Service (YJS) just got an ‘outstanding’ rating after a thorough inspection. This was done by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Probation, and it’s a big deal!
Chief Inspector Martin Jones praised the staff for their dedication. He said they really know the kids and are focused on helping each one succeed. That’s pretty awesome, right?
The inspection also highlighted the great health and education services available at Bromley YJS. They’ve got solid partnerships with local agencies, which means kids have access to resources that help them stay on the right path.
They even have a YJS teacher, a welfare officer, and a nurse to support kids with health and substance issues. Plus, there are cool projects like gardening and bike maintenance that kids can get involved in.
However, there’s a bit of a hiccup. The report mentioned that they don’t have a seconded probation officer because the Probation Service is stretched thin. They’re working on transitioning young adults into the system, but they need to step it up a bit.
Mr. Jones noted that the leaders at Bromley YJS have done a fantastic job creating a strong partnership. They’ve got a clear vision to help kids reach their potential, which is what it’s all about.
The report also made a couple of recommendations for the management board, like figuring out how to better use volunteers. They want to make sure everyone’s voice is heard in the partnership.
Another suggestion was for the YJS staff to get regular training on Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements. It’s all about keeping everyone safe and informed.
Bromley YJS scored an impressive 33 out of 36 in the inspection. The governance and leadership were rated as ‘outstanding’, showing they’ve got strong planning and community ties.

The Bromley Relationship Model (BRM) was highlighted as a key factor in meeting children’s needs effectively. But there are still areas to improve, like enhancing diversity analysis and integrating victim needs into planning.
In terms of numbers, Bromley had a 22.6% reoffending rate, which is lower than the national average of 33%. That’s a positive sign!
Currently, there are 356 children in care, with 86% successfully completing their orders. It’s encouraging to see that 31% of the YJS caseload comes from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic backgrounds.
