A tragic incident in central London has left a young man dead after being struck by a car on Christmas Day
London: A man was hit by a car while walking with friends on Christmas Day, and sadly, he passed away in the hospital on New Year’s Eve. Aidan Chapman, just 25 years old, suffered serious injuries in the crash.
The accident happened on Shaftesbury Avenue, right in the heart of London’s theatre district. A car was reportedly driving on the wrong side of the road when it struck Aidan and three others.
Police are treating Aidan’s death as a homicide, and a post-mortem will be conducted soon. His parents shared their heartbreak, saying losing their son is a nightmare they never imagined.
They described Aidan as a loving and funny person who brought joy to everyone around him. It’s clear he will be deeply missed.
Meanwhile, a 30-year-old man named Anthony Gilheaney has been charged with attempted murder and other driving offenses related to the incident. He’s set to appear in court again on January 24.
Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley mentioned that this is being treated as an isolated incident, not linked to terrorism. They’re asking anyone with footage of the crash to come forward to help with the investigation.
